Campaign for Real Ale

Branch Awards

2021 was a lot better in terms of pubs and clubs being able to trade more easily. It took a while for business to pick up, as customers gained the confidence to return. Apologies for the lack of pictures, but our Pub of the Year in 2021 was the Thames Side Brewery & Tap Room in Staines, and our Club of the Year was again the Egham United Services Club. Well done to both.

Previous year2020was a difficult year for us all, with health problems, lockdowns and restrictions caused by COVID-19 pandemic. We were unable to make our awards as part of a Branch Social, but hopefully 2021 will bring better times.

In first picture, pub landlord James outside his locked down pub, the Happy Man in Englefield Green, receives his 2020 Branch Pub of the Year Award. In better times James has four real ales on offer, and regular beer festivals promoting real ales to his clientele young and old.

In second picture, landlord Phil of the Olde Swan Hotel Chertsey receives his 2020 Branch Cider Pub of the Year Award under Tier 2 restrictions! This is first time we've given this award for over 10 years, and Phil had a well kept range real ciders (and ales) available throughout the year.

In third picture, Egham United Services Club Manager Paul receives his 2020 Club of the Year Award. In better days a full range of real ales & ciders always on offer. Unfortunately Club empty due to Tier 3 restrictions.

In final picture, Thames Side Brewery & Tap Room owner and brewer Andy receives a 2020 Branch Special Award 'Lockdown Hero' in his brewery by Staines Bridge. This was awarded to Andy & Michelle for continuing to supply a great range of excellent real ales throughout Tiers1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Covid restrictions!.
